There are a number of signs in the area which are way out of alignment. This example is at the corner of Northchurch Rd. Balmes Rd is another example (not shown).

At corner of Northchurch Rd. This is the fourth pole in this location. To the left can be seen previous pavement damage, from previous poles, which has never been repaired. So not only is the council installing unnecessary poles. Sometimes they create more work (and cost) by damaging other parts of the public realm. The sign should be on the wall or removed altogether. This could be achieved by replacing the old concrete column (no 8) with a new lighting column and placing it more centrally along the bay, thus removing the need for 2 parking signs. This would have to be checked with the lighting coverage of exiting poles.

Column No. 8. This picture highlights three issues.
- It shows the lighting column which could be replaced and moved more centrally in the bay to alleviate the need for two signs.
- Many white painted markings have appeared on the pavements recently. They are a cirlce with a cross in the centre. Some of these have had cycling poles/signs placed on them. But others have just been left as a sort of administrative graffitti. Why have they been left? Are they to be used? If so, what for? This one in particular poses the question of why the existing pole would not be used. It's those pole clutterer's again!
- You can see where the original markings had been burnt off. The column and sign had been just inches outside the bay since the CPZ inception. Though, it still seemed to work just fine. But the parking review of 2005 decided the bay should be marginally extended to include the pole. A tidy up, which is fine. But alas, after all those months of planning and glossy reports with many fine words, what happened. Well, actually, nothing. That's right nothing happened. The bay remained as it had always been. It was just coincidence that your author happened to be walking by a few days after the designated lining works was done. There was a lining crew doing another job in Northchurch Rd. I pointed out this oversight and they immediately offered to put it right. So full marks to the crew, thinking on their feet and responding to a situation in a pragmatic, helpful and enterprising way. Unfortunately there are nils pois to the organisation/planning behind the original works.

At Cnr of Southgate Grove. Let's move this sign onto the existing column and get rid of a pole.

Column No. 7. This 'new' metal column has never been painted. Council officers stated at the time of all the new columns, that a metal column had to be painted in order for it to attain it's 25 year life span. This one just got missed for some reason. Can we have a man with a brush, paint tin and a cherry picker sort this out please.

Looking North along Ufton Rd at cnr of Southgate Grove. The removal of the two parking spaces at the buildout has resulted in increased vehicle speeds in both directions. Of particular concern is northbound traffic now posing a greater risk to bicycles on the cycle route along Northchurch Rd. What risk assessment was done when this was pointed out before these spaces were removed? There is also no impediment to council rubbish lorries or fire engines as both have been observed easily passing up this road in the past.

Just south of Ufton Grove. If these bays were joined and made continuous, the parking sign could be moved onto the existing lighting column. The detail of the discontinuity is shown below. Less clutter!

This shows the detail of the image above. For the sake of a few inches, this bay could be continuous. An example of a continuous bay is shown below. These continuous and dis-continuous bays are directly opposite each other.

Opp cnr of Ufton Grove. A good example of a bay which follows the buildout. This should be used elsewhere to minimise the number of discrete bays and thus more street furniture.
